The lanai is where this home's outdoor life happens, so the design started from the view out of it. Layered tropical plantings, decorative rock and permanent concrete curbing give the garden a finished look that stays tidy with little upkeep, and every plant was chosen for the light and drainage around the lanai.

Key Features:

Design:

  • Planned from the lanai: sightlines and privacy considered from where the homeowners sit
  • Layered plantings: palms, tropicals and ground cover in scale with the space
  • Low maintenance: Florida-friendly plants suited to the light and drainage
  • Finished edges: concrete curbing defines every bed

Planting:

  • Existing beds cleared and prepared.
  • Tropical plantings installed to the plan.

Materials:

  • Decorative rock in the beds around the lanai.
  • Weed barrier beneath the rock.
  • Concrete curbing to keep material in place.

Result:

  • A garden that frames the lanai.
  • Clean bed lines that hold their shape.
  • Less upkeep, more time enjoying it.
Designed from the seat on the lanai outward, this garden gives the homeowners a finished view in every direction with very little to maintain.
